Current Mood: busy
Current Music: Queen - A Kind of Magic
I really do mean to update this way more often than I actually do. I don’t mostly because I spend most of my time at work on a computer, and so I’m not inclined to spend my time at home on the computer.

So, what have I been spending my time doing? Tigs and I have gotten in some serious couch time. We’ve snuggled through the first season of CSI, and we’re almost through the second. We also just finished season 6 of West Wing, and started season 7 of Gilmore Girls, as well as finally watching a Netflix movie that has been sitting on the TV for a month; The Lives of Others. This last one was a really good movie, and shockingly for a German movie, it didn’t have a really depressing ending!

A couple of weeks ago I decided to make some pot stickers on the stovetop. Usually I just microwave them with a little water, but they came out so much better pan-fried. I’ve not really done a lot of pan-frying before, so it was a learning experience, but one that I’m glad I did. Since I made it that first time I’ve made them a couple more times, and also made a pan-friend mahi-mahi. Yum.

The weather has been unseasonably warm overall, which means I had to mow the front lawn. I’m taking today off to do a little painting (kitchen ceiling), put away the Halloween stuff and get out the Christmas stuff, recaulk the bathroom tub between the tub and the floor ([info]tigergladys is really excited about this one), and whatever else I can tackle over the course of the day.

Nov. 7th, 2009 @ 08:41 am Books 44 - 49
Current Music: Scarlatti (D): Serafini Al Nostro Canto - All'Arme Sì Accesi Guerrieri - Cecilia Bartoli; Marc Minko
Shelf Discovery: The Teen Classics We Never Stopped Reading by Lizzie Skurnick - The premise of this book is that it recaps books I read as a kid. I read every single book recapped in this book when I was a kid, so I thought it was GREAT - the recaps were very funny and spot on. It made me very nostalgic.

Perfection: A Memoir of Betrayal an Renewal by Julie Metz - I wanted to read this book after reading an interview with the author from the New York Times. I read this in one sitting - v. good writing, and like reading about the aftermath of a train wreck.

The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible by A. J. Jacobs - I am not religious in the slightest, but this book was very funny.

Heroic Measures by Jill Ciment - Having long low dogs myself (Corgis) the beginning of this book and the scenes at the emergency vet gave me heart palpitations. I loved the ending. I also loved the descriptions of tv news coverage of "breaking events!!!!"

Deep Waters by Barbara Nadel - Super.

The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment by A. J. Jacobs - A series of short articles previously published in Esquire. Funny.

Current Mood: chipper
Over Halloween I came down with a bad case of zombie. It started at work, and just completely wiped me out. Sunday morning though I felt much better. I hope it doesn’t reoccur. It did win me a $5 gift certificate to the coffee bar at work, so in spite of the pale flaky skin, and everyone being worried for me, it wasn't all bad!

Halloween itself was pretty low key. We watched appropriately themed movies (Hocus Pocus, Army of Darkness, and Nightmare Before Christmas), passed out candy, and carved pumpkins. Alice dressed up as a doctor, and Lucy as a lobster. If we stuck them in a faulty transporter together we'd end up with this.

Mine's the one with the bats!

I also made a pumpkin pie, and for the first time in a long time I used pumpkin from a can. [info]tigergladys said it was the best pie Ive ever made. :-(

Alicemonster earned her Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title Tuesday night. Now we’ve got a couple of weeks before the next round of classes kicks off.
